Trip 9: Motorhome Travels through Germany, France & Belgium

6th October to 11th December 2019

We started our motorhome travels in 'Big Ted', our 2011 Frankia Holiday BD680 motorhome after collecting him on 18th June 2018 from Webbs Motor Caravans in Warminster. So far we've done two trips in him, a short first one to Scotland and then a longer one of just over 6 months in 2018/19. This is our third trip, details below.

This is an interactive map of our travels. It shows all the places we have visited and, by clicking on any location icon you can reveal where it is, some photos and links to blog entries there. You can also access a list of them by clicking on the square in the top left hand corner of the map and scrolling down.

Our plan:

Our third trip in Big Ted, our motorhome (and out 9th overall since giving up work in 2012) and, as usual, our plan was very vague. Our last trip took us through France, Spain and Portugal so, this time we thought we'd go a little further east.

By following the map above you can see that we caught a ferry to France on 6th October and travelled through Belgium, a little bit of the Netherlands and then into Germany at Aachen and then to Cologne. From there we followed the River Rhine south (upstream) very slowly, stopping at many medieval towns and sights on the way, ending at Mainz.

From there we drove across to Wurzburg and then followed the Romantic Road south ending at Fussen, headed west to Lake Constance, across briefly into France and then up through the Black Forest, through Luxembourg, Belgium, France and then a ferry back home, arriving back on 11th December.

Why such a short trip? Our minds drifted to somewhere further afield and South Africa came to mind. We leave for that on 22nd December, hence cutting this one short. That's the subject of Trip 10, to be published soon.

We've no doubt our plans for this trip will change and evolve as it progresses so we'll update as we go along and post links to blog entries below.
