29th September to 13th October
A short trip to Spain mainly to catch up with Jackie's dad, Richard and his wife Elizabeth at their fabulous house in the hills above Altea on the Costa Blanca, Spain.
Normally we would fly there and back but we spied a cruise by Fred Olsen cruise lines that leaves Southampton on 30th September for an 8 day cruise to Alicante. It has five ports of call, Vigo, Cadiz, Malaga, Melilla and Alicante, some of which we haven't visited before, so it was a good opportunity.
We head down to Southampton on the train on Tuesday 29th and stay at the Ibis hotel, very close to the part, getting onboard on the morning of the 30th. We plan sightseeing walks round the port calls rather than any shore trips. On arrival in Alicante we walk into town with our gear and get a tram to Benidorm and onto Altea, where Elizabeth will pick us up.
After 5 days at their house a taxi will take us to Alicante airport for a Jet 2 flight back to Birmingham and a train back home. A nice little break!
