Trip 12 - Motorhome tour of UK and Europe

8th November to 1st March 2022

After a summer of housesitting in various parts of the UK, mainly in order to avoid large crowds of domestic holidaymakers in all the tourist hotspots and our disinclination to travel overseas, we finally got Big Ted, our motorhome, back out of storage and headed off into the autumn sunshine and showery weather.

Our plan was to visit parts of the UK first and then head off to Europe for our allocation of 90 days allowable in the new regime post Brexit. Although UK weather can be cool and changeable in late autumn, we decided to delay our departure to Spain until December to avoid the usual worst UK weather in January/February and early March.

A plan was hatched and we set off on 8th November to visit places such as Stonehenge, Salisbury, Glastonbury, Taunton and Cirencester in the South West of England, returned to the Midlands for Covid boosters, flu vaccinations and pre-Christmas get togethers, then headed to Spain on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry on 9th December. Heading to the sun on Mediterranean coast we arrived at Creixel, south of Barcelona on day 3 after a couple of stops in rain and snow and then headed south to arrive at Jackie's dad's and Elizabeth to spend Christmas and New Year at their lovely home in Altea-La-Vella. We left on 11th January and headed south again aiming to stick to the coast (and sun), on through Spain and Portugal up to Lisbon then across back into Spain and on to the ferry at Santander on 26th February.
